The Visible Body – Explore Human Anatomy In An Interactive 3D Environment

visible_body_website_screenshotThere is a major cool factor to today’s “Excellent Free Resource” topic, The Visible Body. Users can explore human anatomy in a unique and easy to understand 3D environment using a web browser. Free registration and installation of a simple browser plug-in (to allow user control of the 3D environment) is required. The Visible Body offers navigation of 1,700 anatomical structures, including all major organs and internal systems of the human body. This is a marvelous site for students, professionals, and healthcare professionals.

The Visible Body website provides an excellent description of their system:

“The Visible Body consists of highly detailed, anatomically accurate, 3D models of all human body systems. The models were developed by an extensively trained team with decades of experience in medical illustration and biomedical visualization. All anatomical content has been reviewed for accuracy by our panel of experts, including physicians and anatomists. The beta release includes content covered in an undergraduate-level Anatomy and Physiology course. Years of modeling and enhancement make it the most sophisticated and complete 3D model of the human body available.”

In my opinion, The Visible Body should become the standard for classrooms of any age. The human body is a marvelously complex structure, and the interactive nature of this website helps to make learning human anatomy interesting and fun!

Enjoy.
