For the first time in more than 10 years, the value of the work psychologists and other professionals do in providing psychotherapy services is now under review. American Psychological Association Practice Organization (APAPO) and four other mental health specialty societies are participating in this critical survey project.
This week several thousand APAPO members received surveys to evaluate specific psychotherapy services. These members were selected at random from pools of psychologists who provide particular psychological services. For those selected to participate, it is critically important that you carefully complete the survey. Your participation will help ensure that psychology’s work is valued appropriately in Medicare.
In conducting the survey, APAPO must follow a process established by the AMA / Specialty Society Relative Value Update Committee (RUC). Upon completion, APAPO will compile the survey data, develop recommendations for valuing each code, and present those recommendations to the RUC.
Thank you for helping to ensure that the work you do in providing psychotherapy services is properly valued in Medicare.
